Understanding the eligibility requirements, income limits, and applicant types for the Affordable Housing Scheme.
The Affordable Housing Scheme is a subsidized public housing program in Hong Kong designed to provide an alternative housing option for citizens who cannot afford private housing estates. Additionally, it encourages higher-income public housing tenants to vacate their units and accelerate public housing turnover.
Affordable housing applicants are categorized into four types: Green Form, White Form, White Form (2), and subsidized housing by the Housing Society. Each applicant type has different eligibility requirements and income limits. Green Form applicants include public housing tenants, those with valid Green Form certificates, Housing Department's estate agents and assistants, and elderly tenants who receive rent assistance from the Housing Authority. White Form applicants include permanent Hong Kong residents aged 18 or above who are not public housing tenants. White Form (2) applicants are also permanent Hong Kong residents aged 18 or above, not public housing tenants, and neither the applicant nor any household members have received housing assistance, nor do they have any joint ownership of any residential properties in Hong Kong. Finally, subsidized housing by the Housing Society includes both Green Form and White Form applicants.
Income limits for each applicant type vary. Both Green Form and White Form applicants have an income limit of HKD 33,000, which increases to HKD 66,000 for two or more applicants. White Form (2) applicants and subsidized housing by the Housing Society have slightly lower income limits of HKD 33,000 and HKD 26,000, respectively. These eligibility and income requirements can help citizens determine if they qualify for the Affordable Housing Scheme.
